Albany Creek Swimming Club member Brianna Thompson has successfully completed a double crossing of the English Channel in 22 hours and 37 minutes!!!
Brianna who is only 17, hit the beach at Samphire Hoe near Dover on England's south east coast, about 11.35 am on July 10 (Brisbane Time) after setting off from there for France at 12.50 pm (3.50 am local time) the previous day.
Brianna made it to Le Gris Nez, France after 11 hours and five minutes. The return leg took 11 hours and 32 minutes.
Brianna is only the sixth Australian to have ever completed the double crossing.
The channel is 32 km wide at it's narrowest point, but tides and currents force swimmers to take a longe route.
Well done Brianna! We are so proud of you and what you have accomplished.
